Naturalization Application Workshop Project
a CLINIC project
NOTE: This webpage
was launched in
January 2007 and
continues to be updated.
 Please check the
webpage often for new
information.
CLINIC is calling on lawful permanent residents to obtain citizenship.  To assist, CLINIC is funding
eighteen organizations to conduct naturalization group application workshops.  The project is
supported with funding from the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

CLINIC selected the eighteen organizations based on their capacity building needs to serve large
numbers of lawful permanent residents currently eligible for U.S. citizenship and an equal or larger
number of undocumented immigrants who might be receive charitable legal immigration services
using the workshop model.

A workshop is a one-day community event that brings together professionals and trained
volunteers to assist lawful permanent residents in completing the Application for Naturalization (N-
400). The workshop model helped to raise the naturalization rate after Congress passed welfare
reform legislation in 1996 and is being revisited now to increase the naturalization rate, to promote
voter registration, and to prepare for legalization.

CLINIC hopes that the naturalization workshop project will generate strong support from local
charitable immigration programs, pro bono attorneys, ethnic-based service and civic organizations,
English teachers and other volunteers.  In addition, CLINIC hopes this project will spur similar groups
and individuals to provide workshops in additional cities to build capacity to serve would-be citizens
and immigrants seeking to legalize their status if and when Congress passes comprehensive
immigration reform.
