a variety of services to assist
arch/dioceses and religious
institutes bringing foreign-born
religious workers to the U.S.
on a temporary or permanent
basis each year.

The Division’s staff offers:
Legal Services
• Review of immigration documents and forms for eligibility determination;
• Telephonic inquiries and research of immigration questions.
• Preparation of forms and correspondence for U.S. immigration benefits;
• Representation before federal agencies such as the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration
Services (USCIS), formerly known as the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS),
and the Department of State (DOS); and
• On-going case management.
Educational Services
• Technical support for church personnel managing religious immigration cases;
• Training in religious immigration law for arch/diocesan and religious institute personnel
as well as Catholic Charities legal immigration staff;
• Quarterly newsletter highlighting specific religious immigration practice issues; and
• Publications on religious immigration law, case management and best legal practices.
Advocacy
• Communication with USCIS and DOS to ensure laws and agency regulations are applied
correctly in religious immigration cases;
• Meetings with federal agencies to resolve systemic or case specific problems; and
• Collaboration with national church agencies to promote specific religious immigration
needs.
