Immigration Attorney - CRCKY

We are seeking a highly motivated Immigration Attorney to join our team. CRCKY’s immigration lawyer will assist immigrants in limited scope asylum representations, respond to potential ICE raids and arrest, assist clients in transitioning from TPS (Temporary Protected Status) and humanitarian parole, assist in submitting Withdrawal of Removal and CAT (Convention Against Torture) applications, and submit DACA renewals.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Advise clients on immigration laws and procedures, including Asylum, Temporary Protected Status, Humanitarian Parole, SIJS, DACA and removal proceedings
- Represent clients in immigration court and before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
- Represent clients in deportation proceedings
- Prepare and file legal documents such as applications, petitions, appeals, and waivers
- Draft correspondence and memos related to immigration matters
- Conduct legal research and prepare complex legal briefs
- Provide legal advice and counsel on all aspects of immigration law
- Communicate regularly with clients and update them on their case status
- Monitor changes in immigration law, regulations, and trends and advise clients accordingly
- Collaborate with staff DOJ Accredited Representatives and volunteer lawyers to develop legal strategies and approaches for complex cases
- Supervise DOJ Accredited Representatives as needed
- Maintain detailed case files and documentation to ensure compliance with legal requirements and deadlines
- Review and sign documents prepared by DOJ Partially Accredited Representatives for defensive asylum cases
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Admission to the Kentucky bar and eligibility to practice law
- Strong understanding of immigration law and procedures
- Proficiency in legal research and writing
- Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines effectively
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent written communication skills
- Ability to handle a high caseload efficiently
- Membership in relevant legal associations
- Demonstrated commitment to public service or pro bono work
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask
- Able to work with clients from diverse backgrounds
- Able to work independently and meet deadlines
Preferred
- Prior experience in practicing immigration law or through internships or clerkships
- Experience representing clients in immigration court
- Fluency in at least one language other than English
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proficiency in legal research tools and software
- Experience with case management software
- Google Workspace and GMail proficiency
- ProtonMail and ProtonDrive proficiency
- Docketwise proficiency a plus but not required
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week. Pay range: $47,000 - $53,000, commensurate with experience and background. Health insurance is provided.
Though the position is full-time, office hours are flexible. Some set office hours will be required, but some work may be done from home.
