Supervising Senior Attorney - Advocate

Summary

The Supervising Senior Attorney/Advocate has responsibility for providing accurate and comprehensive immigration program management (including DOJ Recognition and Accreditation) advice to CLINIC’s network of charitable immigration legal services organizations (“CLINIC affiliates”) and partner legal services organizations, conducting trainings (both in-person and virtually), and authoring articles and resource materials. This Attorney/Advocate must analyze and apply immigration practice principles to complex questions and fact scenarios. The Supervising Senior Attorney/Advocate will also provide direct supervision to other attorneys and advocates on the Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) team.

Primary Responsibilities

Technical Assistance and Training

  • Maintain a broad knowledge on the fundamentals of U.S. immigration law and practice and be informed about changes in immigration regulations and policies.
  • Provide accurate and comprehensive advice to CLINIC affiliates and partner legal services organizations on a range of topics related to immigration program management, capacity building, and ethical practice of law.
  • Assist in mentoring affiliates and providing sample or template materials, as needed.
  • Assist in preparing trainings on a range of topics related to immigration program management, capacity building, and the ethical practice of law, including DOJ Recognition and Accreditation.
  • Conduct in-person and remote trainings and webinars in collaboration with other CLINIC and external subject matter experts. Maintain accurate records in CLINIC’s data management system.
  • As assigned, accept opportunities to speak at conferences on immigration program management and capacity building issues.
  • Exercise independent legal judgment.
  • Partner with CLINIC’s Field Engagement team to:
    • assess topics for training and resources based on affiliate inquiries and feedback;
    • determine areas for continued excellence or improvement in providing training and technical assistance;
    • coordinate and collaborate on affiliate cohort sessions as appropriate.

Writing

  • Assist in creating, disseminating, and periodically reviewing/updating resource materials on immigration program management, capacity building, and the ethical practice of law.
  • As assigned, support CLINIC’s Advocacy section on select issues including analyzing and drafting public comments to proposed

Supervision

  • Provide leadership, direction, consultation, mentoring, and support to direct reports to ensure clarity in roles, responsibilities, and expectations.
  • Make assignments to staff and monitor and review work on a regular basis.
  • Ensure quality control mechanisms and monitor staff’s effective use of CLINIC’s resources.
  • Conduct assessments of staff performance and provide regular guidance and feedback to staff and the TTA Director.
  • Complete performance evaluations.
  • Assess staff resources and developmental needs, make recommendation on strategies for meeting those needs, and facilitate access to developmental resources.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Juris Doctor Degree or DOJ Accreditation (Full or Partial) preferred.
  • Eight years or more experience in non-profit immigration legal services including program management, organizational/strategic planning, and program evaluation/assessment.
  • At least three years supervisory experience.
  • High degree of knowledge of delivery of direct immigration legal services; resource development strategies; best practices; and non-profit management.
  • Ability to manage work on multiple projects effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage special projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong training content development and public speaking skills.
  • An uncompromising commitment to immigrants' rights and race equity Foreign language skills a plus.
  • Ability to travel on occasion for trainings, conferences and site visits.

Supervision

  • 100% Remote, anywhere within the continental United States

Salary Range

  • $88,000 - $95,000
