Consumer and Housing Staff Attorneys provide counsel, advice and direct legal representation to low-income individuals who are facing foreclosure or eviction and ensure that consumers’ rights are protected. The types of cases and issues include evictions, uninhabitable and unsanitary living conditions, wrongful lockouts, housing discrimination, termination of utilities or other basic services, consumer fraud, deceptive trade practices, fair debt collection practices, and other related matters affecting individuals in the Northern Nevada region.
Responsibilities
Job duties will include the following:
- Maintaining direct representation and an active case load in the areas of consumer and housing. As well as providing counsel and advice on such matters and referrals to suitable resources. This includes doing your own drafting of legal documents and your own calendaring.
- Establishing a relationship with clients and maintaining regular contact for the duration of their legal actions, with specific attention to trauma-informed representation.
- Attending hearings, trials, settlement conferences, and other court functions fully prepared and actively advocating for clients.
- Coordinating with community partners and serving as a community resource.
Excellent legal writing and communication skills a must. Must be comfortable working with vulnerable populations and representing clients in a courtroom environment. Experience with consumer and housing issues including NRS 118A and post-COVID eviction protections on a state and federal level is a plus, but not required. In addition, exposure to Section 8 and Low Income House Tax Credit (LIHTC) programs is helpful, but not required. Qualified candidates must be a member of the Nevada Bar, or possess an active and good standing Bar License from any United States jurisdiction to comply with Supreme Court Rule 49.1.

The salary is up to $66,500 a year depending on experience and qualifications. The PTO accrual program starts accruing immediately to earn over 5 weeks of PTO a year (increase in PTO accrual after 2 years) to help promote excellent work-life balance. Victim Advocacy Staff Attorneys provide direct legal representation to individuals who are victims of domestic violence in the Northern Nevada region. Victim Advocacy Staff Attorneys assure protection of victims’ legal rights and provide a voice for these individuals in court and other settings.
Responsibilities
Job duties will include the following:
- Maintaining direct representation and an active case load in the areas of protection orders, divorce, custody, child support, and potentially other related matters. This includes doing your own drafting of legal documents and your own calendaring.

Self-Help Supervising Attorney
Summary

This is a new position at Washoe Legal Services that will supervise our current Self-Help Coordinators (SHC). The Self-Help Supervising Attorney will place the organization in a better position to build out the delivery models and program to meet the growing needs of the community. The Self-Help Supervising Attorney will enhance services by consulting and advising the SHCs, and may evaluate self-help clients for placement on our pro bono case list.
The Self-Help Unit sees walk in clients on a regular schedule. SHCs are also available by appointment or to see walk-ins during other times as schedule permits. SHCs help with legal forms in a variety of legal matters including family law, landlord/tenant, housing stability related issues, non-domestic protective orders, small claims, records sealing, powers of attorney, and name changes. SHCs also assist litigants with electronic filing by educating them regarding procedures, locating forms and navigating the e-filing system. A SHC travels to the Washoe County jail once a week to help inmates process documents.
Responsibilities
Job duties will include the following:
- Supervise current Self-Help Coordinators (SHC)
- Current planning includes overseeing a self-help program located at the Reno Justice Court (with potential for expansion to assist family court clients).
- Manage the Washoe County Detention Center Inmate Program which helps jail inmates regarding certain civil matters. This consists of reviewing the detention center online request system and assigning staff to respond based on the complexity of the request.
- Serve as the liaison on this contract with the Washoe County Detention Center and will handle more complex legal requests from inmates and may occasionally visit the jail to see clients as needed.
- Act as the liaison with the Reno Justice Court and assist in reporting for contracts and/or grants as needed for program funding.
- Developing clinics and virtual or remote ways to provide self-help, as well as providing counsel and advice on such matters and referrals to suitable resources.
- Coordinating with community partners and serving as a community resource.
Excellent legal writing and communication skills a must. The Self-Help Supervising Attorney should have strong research skills and some familiarity with the legal topics listed above and/or a willingness and ability to learn concepts quickly. Prefer Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) candidate but not required. Qualified candidates must be a member of the Nevada Bar, or possess an active and good standing Bar License from any United States jurisdiction to comply with Supreme Court Rule 49.1.

Donor Relations Manager (Fundraising and Development)
Summary
The Donor Relations Manager is responsible for developing and implementing engagement and fundraising strategies to enhance and grow revenue from current and prospective donors. The Donor Relations Manager also provides comprehensive administrative assistance to the Advancement department, with a focus on office and fundraising support, effective database management and reporting, event logistics, donor relations and stewardship efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities
These duties include, but are not limited to:
- Developing and maintaining a calendar and timeline for annual donor appeals, which includes reporting and tracking data, reconciling monthly statements, preparing financing reports and the preparation of grant receipt forms.
- Overseeing all aspects of CLINIC’s direct and electronic mail appeals, including drafting letters, tracking donations and preparing spreadsheets
- Maintaining and managing donor lists, processes individual gifts, corporate donations, and grants awards.
- Stewardship, including preparation of thank you letters and acknowledgement letters in accordance with IRS reporting requirements and CLINIC policies.
- Interacting with donors, including solicitations, questions, recognition and cultivation activities.
- Working with the Events Manager in planning and executing special events.
- Collaborating with Communications section on development appeals, donor-related publications and social media presence.
- Maintaining relationships with outside contractors in renewing registrations for national and state appeals and online profiles.
- Attending internal and external meetings, including providing administration of quarterly CLINIC Board Resource Development Committee meetings and community events, as required.
- Serving an integral role in CLINIC’s annual Convening event, with emphasis on sponsorships and exhibitors and scholarships.
Qualifications

Reporting to the Supervising Attorney, the ONA Legal Assistant will assist in carrying out ONA grant objectives and will work to advance the mission of Journey’s End Refugee Services. The ONA Legal Assistant will provide outreach, referrals, and assistance with direct immigration legal services, and will assist ONA Legal Counsels in the organization of legal clinics, legal consultation days, and community information sessions across the counties of the Finger Lakes. The Finger Lakes region includes Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Seneca, Yates, and Wayne Counties. This position will primarily operate out of Rochester, NY.
Responsibilities
- Assist ONA Legal Counsels in providing direct immigration legal representation to the immigrant populations of the Finger Lakes.
- Assist ONA Legal Counsels in the organization and facilitation of legal consultation days, legal clinics, and community information sessions at the ONA Opportunity Center and other partner agencies across the Finger Lakes.

Reporting to the Supervising Attorney, the ONA Staff Attorney will assist in carrying out ONA grant objectives and will work to advance the mission of Journey’s End Refugee Services. ONA Staff Attorney will provide outreach, direct immigration legal services, naturalization application review, legal clinics, legal consultation days, community information sessions, Know Your Rights presentations, referrals, and technical legal assistance to ONA Opportunity Centers and other organizations across the counties of the Southern Tier. The Southern Tier region includes Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Delaware, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga, and Tompkins Counties. This position will primarily operate out of the Southern Tier region of NYS.
The ONA Staff Attorney must exemplify Journey’s End’s core values in their work. These values include intercultural responsiveness, integrity, person-centered, empowerment, and exemplary service.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct affirmative and defensive immigration legal representation to the immigrant populations of the Southern Tier.
- Conduct review of naturalization application completion process of Department of Justice (DOJ) Accredited ONA Opportunity Centers in the Southern Tier.
- Develop, sustain, and grow meaningful partnerships with local community groups to organize and host events.
- Organize and attend legal consultation days, legal clinics, community information sessions, and Know Your Rights presentations at ONA Opportunity Centers and partner agencies across the Southern Tier.
- Respond to immigration law questions from ONA Opportunity Centers, other immigrant service providers, and individuals in need of immigration assistance in the region.
- Develop and distribute a list of resources for referrals on programs and services available to new Americans.
- Conduct widespread community outreach and coordinate with other ONA projects, including participation in monthly New York State Department of State/ONA webinars.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

- Be admitted and remain in good standing of the bar of the highest court of any state in the country or U.S. territory
