A Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by Buzzfeed News revealed a letter sent to then-Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly on March 17, 2017. The letter, signed by the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Catholic Charities USA, and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, warned the secretary of the traumatic consequences the policy could have on children.
