TPS Extension and Redesignation for Yemen Will Provide Needed Relief

SILVER SPRING, Maryland — Today, Jan. 3, the Department of Homeland Security, or DHS, released a Federal Register Notice which extended and redesignated Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, for Yemen for an additional 18 months, through Sept. 3, 2024. The redesignation of TPS for Yemen allows those who arrived in the United States before Dec. 29, 2022, to apply for TPS for the first time.

“The conflict in Yemen continues, creating dire humanitarian conditions and displacing millions,” said Anna Gallagher, executive director of the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc., or CLINIC. “This decision duly recognizes the needs of Yemenis in the U.S. who cannot return home. We at CLINIC are heartened by this news, which will provide real relief for many.”

In addition to the extension and redesignation of TPS, DHS also extended Special Student Relief for Yemeni students residing in the U.S. who are facing ongoing hardship due to the crisis in Yemen. The student relief is also extended through Sept. 3, 2024.
