Advocate for Asylum Seekers: Submit a Comment to Reject the Asylum Ban

Last Updated

March 14, 2023

The Biden administration is accepting public comments on its new proposed rule on asylum, entitled Circumvention of Lawful Pathways. This proposed rule is a version of an asylum ban similar to the one Trump administration issued which was later struck down by the courts. Along with partner organizations, CLINIC invites you to submit a comment to voice your opposition to the harmful impacts this rule will have. The comment period is open until March 27, 2023, unless the government grants an extension.

Why comment?

It is important to send your comments to the Biden administration so they hear in detail about how this rule will harm people seeking asylum at the southern border and how the narrow exceptions it allows for are not enough. Under the proposed rule, individuals will be required to seek asylum in transit countries, some of which have substandard asylum systems and where asylum seekers could face further harm or persecution. The proposed rule violates both domestic and international law.

Read our press statement on the proposed ban. You can also read our Topline Immigration Policy update on the rule for further information.

Please remember each comment must include unique information and circumstances so the government considers and counts each comment.
