The Non-Minister Sunset Provision is a temporary law that allows religious brothers, sisters and foreign nationals working in a religious occupation to become permanent residents. This article provides a brief overview of the updates to the Non-Minister Sunset Provision.

The sunset provision for non-ministers is currently set to expire on Dec. 16, 2022. On Sept. 30, 2022, the president signed into law H.R. 6833, extending the provision. This provision of the law allows religious workers in non-minister categories (religious vocation or occupation category) to apply for permanent residency. The provision does not apply to religious workers in a minister category.

We will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as they arise. For more information please contact the Religious Immigration Services section at 301-565-4832 or contact your RIS attorney directly.
