Engaging Clients with Compassion: Trauma-Informed Interviewing Practices
Because immigrants are likely to have experienced trauma—whether in their home country, during their journey, or in the U.S.—it is critical for advocates to understand how trauma impacts our clients and develop skills that enable us to work through a client’s trauma to best serve them. This practical, engagement-based workshop will provide practical tips and techniques on how advocates can adopt a trauma-informed stance to engage with clients in a way that is empathetic and healing-centered so that we can empower our clients, respect their dignity, and obtain the information we need to represent them to the best of our abilities.
