Course Description

One of the secrets to running a successful immigration legal services program is prioritizing efficiency and organization. This allows your program to keep up with unexpected challenges, while helping as many people as possible. Let CLINIC help you prepare!

Over four weeks, this introductory-level course covers the basic components of effective case management techniques and strategies. Throughout the course, participants will learn best practices in intake procedures, case acceptance and closure, file maintenance, form creation and improvement, and much more. Participants will also learn about case management database systems, as well as strategies to create an effective case management policies and procedures manual to optimize program efficiency and minimize risk of liability.

Course Structure

This course starts on May 24 with access to the e-learning course website and the Week One assignment. Once you have access, you may begin any of the activities intended for self-directed learning, including reading assignments, sample materials, and quizzes. The course will be interactive, with opportunities for online and real-time discussion among students, and between students and instructors. The webinars will be conducted on consecutive Wednesdays at 2 p.m. ET starting on May 31. Each webinar lasts approximately 60 minutes and is recorded and posted on the course website after the webinar has concluded. Although we encourage participants to attend the live webinars each week, you will be able to view the recording of any webinar you are unable to attend whenever you choose to do so.

Who Should Take This Course?

This course is an overview of best practices for managing cases at a charitable, immigration legal services program. It is appropriate for program staff from a wide range of organizations, including established immigration programs; ethnic and immigrant organizations; domestic violence and sexual assault coalitions and service providers; unions, social services and medical providers; and educational programs, such as ESL and citizenship.

Course Completion Requirements

Course participants will receive a course completion certificate if they (a) attend or view recordings of the weekly course webinar and (b) complete each weekly course quiz. The deadline to complete these requirements is July 5, 2023, by 11:59 p.m. ET. The e-learning course will close on July 19, 2023.
