Please join us for a three-part webinar series on representing refugees and asylees. We will discuss family reunification options and how the Trump administration’s policies impact these options. Next, we will explore the eligibility requirements for adjustment of status and discuss the application requirements. Finally, the series will cover naturalization, termination of status, and travel as they pertain to refugees and asylees.

Webinar One: Family Reunification for Asylees and Refugees

In week one, we will focus on family reunification for refugees and asylees. We will discuss the processing of I-730s for family members who are both inside and outside the United States. The webinar will cover issues that arise before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and consulates abroad, how to respond to common Requests for Evidence, as well as how the Trump administration’s travel ban and end to refugee processing impact family members outside of the United States.
Webinar Two: Adjustment of Status for Refugees and Asylees
Nov. 13 | 2-3:30 p.m. ET | CA MCLE 1.5
Special rules govern the adjustment of status to permanent residence for refugees and asylees. This webinar will focus on the eligibility requirements, procedures, and trends in adjustment of status for both principals and derivatives, including a look at special exemptions and waivers of inadmissibility grounds. We will also cover the nunc pro tunc asylum process for applicants who lose derivative status before adjustment. Finally, the presenters will provide tips on adjustment application completion, filing practice, and interview preparation.
Webinar Three: Travel Issues, Termination, and Naturalization for Refugees and Asylees
Nov. 20 | 2-3:30 p.m. ET | CA MCLE 1.5
In this webinar presenters will discuss issues that are unique to refugees and asylees in the naturalization process. The session will also cover when and how asylum and refugee termination issues arise and strategies to represent your client when USCIS attempts to terminate status. Finally, we will discuss how your client can travel, whether it is advisable for your client to travel, and potential risks and consequences of traveling while in asylee or refugee status.

If you are a California attorney, you are eligible to claim 1.5 hours of MCLE credits for each live webinar. To receive MCLE credit, please provide your state bar number when you register for each live webinar. If you are an attorney licensed in another state, please check with your state bar to determine whether this training qualifies for MCLE credit.
