Recordings: Selected Issues in Inadmissibility
Available Aug. 6-Oct. 6, 2025 | CA MCLE: Self-Study
How do you determine whether your client is inadmissible? This four-part recorded webinar series provides an in-depth examination of some of the most common grounds of inadmissibility. Presenters explore the following topics: fraud and false claims to citizenship, smuggling, unlawful presence and other immigration violations, crimes, health-based grounds, public charge, and national security grounds. In analyzing how these grounds are defined and interpreted, presenters review when clients might fall into a statutory exception and when a particular inadmissibility ground can be waived. They also offer basic tips on how to apply for the different types of waivers. Presenters use case examples and hypothetical situations to demonstrate how to screen for inadmissibility and assess waiver eligibility.
Links to each 90-minute recording will be available for purchase until 11:59 p.m. ET on Aug. 5, 2025. The recording links will then be sent on Aug. 6, 2025, to all who purchased them. Webinar One: Understanding Misrepresentation, False Claims to U.S Citizenship, and Smuggling (90 Minutes)
In this first webinar, presenters discuss the INA § 212(a)(6) grounds of inadmissibility. Topics include the types of conduct that may constitute fraud or willful misrepresentation and when your client may have made a false claim to U.S. citizenship. They also discuss the smuggling ground of inadmissibility and how broadly this ground is interpreted.
Webinar Two: Understanding Unlawful Presence and Other Immigration Violations (90 Minutes)
This webinar focuses on the grounds of inadmissibility triggered by leaving the United States after accrual of unlawful presence and/or removal orders, as well as re-entering the United States unlawfully after accrual of unlawful presence and/or removal orders. INA § 212(a)(9) covers the most common ways your client may be found inadmissible.
Webinar Three: Understanding the Health, Public Charge, and Security-Related Grounds of Inadmissibility (90 Minutes)
This webinar covers three important inadmissibility grounds: health-related, public charge and security-related grounds. Some of your clients may have used drugs or been convicted of a DUI. Or they may be considered likely to become a public charge based on their age, health, family status, assets, resources, financial status, education, and skills. Presenters provide current information, analysis and tips related to these grounds.
Webinar Four: Understanding the Criminal Grounds of Inadmissibility (90 Minutes)
This webinar examines INA § 212(a)(2), the grounds of inadmissibility relating to criminal conduct. These include convictions or admissions of crimes involving moral turpitude, multiple criminal convictions, and drug offenses. Presenters cover what makes a conviction for immigration purposes, as well as how to locate and analyze immigration records.
